Sausages galore.

Whew! Last week was a blur. Albeit a blur made up of good laughs and lots of food, but boy, it went by quick. Wednesday evening, we met the BFF and her husband for another comedy show. This time, we were at Cap City Comedy Club, the headliner was Josh Wolf, and his opening act was Tommy Pope.

Hooray! Date night!

Once again, I had never heard of either of these guys, and once again, they were hysterical. My friends have good taste in comedic talent! Seriously, if you need a laugh, find these guys on YouTube or watch Josh Wolf on Chelsea Lately. An added perk? We got to meet them and talk to them some after the show.

Josh Wolf is in the middle, Tommy Pope and the emcee Bob are
photobombing us in the back.

Me and Tommy Pope. Oh, and emcee Bob ... again.
(Psssst, Bob ... that's only funny once.)

My Josh Wolf autograph - we played a guessing game on how to
spell my name as he was writing, so ...

The BFF's autograph. Funny guy.

I finished out the week with what else? Yes, amazing food. Thanks to my boss for this trip -- it was mahvelous, to say the very least. We went over to Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden, a pretty tasty joint off Rainey Street. I must say, their sausages don't blow me away and most of their food is in dire need of a few shakes of salt, but their jalapeno mac & cheese and their chili cheese fries rock my socks. Hard.

  photo image_zps6a673770.jpg

 photo image_zps5c6ed774.jpg
Hail the holy chili cheese fries. I am NOT a chili cheese kind of gal, but these are good.
Like, cut-a-bitch good. I could eat these for the rest of my life, if I didn't fear how
big my ass would get. Just looking at them gets me all revved up again.

 photo image_zps0f454a8f.jpg
This is my third time to Banger's (what can I say, it's my boss' favorite place these days), and
this sausage is probably the best one I've tried, so far. It's the drunken chicken sausage,
comprised of beer, Serrano peppers, red pepper flakes, cilantro, and more beer. You get to
pick your bun, sauce, and toppings, so I went with the chef-suggested kolache bun,
caramelized onions, and garlic aioli. Hell yes.

 photo image_zps03c546d7.jpg
This is the other thing they have that sends my heart soaring -- jalapeno mac & cheese.
I ordered the red beans & rice, at the server's urging, and it reinforced how much I don't
trust anyone's opinion but my own. My boss got this mac & cheese and thankfully,
shared it with me. At least they took the unholy red beans & rice off our bill.

Because you can never eat too many sausages in one weekend, we also opted for a trip to Sprouts Saturday night to get some of our own to grill. Green chili pork, chicken parmesan, sweet Italian, and chicken apple were what we brought home, as well as some teriyaki marinated steak kabobs for Z. Oh, how happy grilling makes this girl.

Pre-grilling close-up.

 photo image_zps1e87c27c.jpg
My chicken sausages, topped with grilled onions and
Whataburger mustard. (Yes, it is sold in stores now - there is a God.)
Paired up with fresh corn on the cob from the Farmer's Market last weekend - sublime!

I also decided to attempt drying my own strawberries in the oven this weekend, for a healthy fruit snack with no added crap. I found a how-to on my beloved Pinterest, and proceeded to slice up an entire container of strawberries. She said to make them thin, because she cut hers thick, and it didn't work as well as she had hoped it would.

 photo image_zps4765fd1e.jpg
My beautiful, thin cut berries.

 photo image_zps74d7cb7f.jpg
In the oven, according to directions. Fast forward a little ...

 photo image_zps0c03d552.jpg
Epic fail. Guess I sliced them TOO thin. Sigh.

I'll try it again next weekend, I know I can nail this. Lastly, on Sunday, I decided to do something I've been wanting to do for a while now -- dive into the Doctor Who series!

 photo image_zps105b30bc.jpg

My Dad and I used to watch the really old version of this show on PBS when I was a kid, but I had always been curious about it after it was resurrected in 2005. Since we have Amazon Prime (best invention ever, by the way), I can watch all episodes of all the old seasons for free. Boom! Love it.

So, those were the highlights of our week, and weekend. I won't bore anyone about how hot its getting, because we all know how much hot weather sucks. (I hate you summer!) But, I did send off my Foodie PenPal package this past scorching Saturday, and I'm excited to be receiving mine sometime within the next week! It's nice having something to look forward to, besides sweating!

More soon! xoxo

Monday, Monday (bah baaaa bah bah bah)

Let me start this post by saying it has come to my realization that when viewing my blog on Firefox, the font could possibly appear as Comic Sans. As this font drives me insane, and I firmly believe it should be bastardized and exiled from planet Earth forever, let me apologize to anyone who has read it and had their eyes violated in such a way. Some other Internet Explorer computers also show my blog in a funky, bad cursive-ish type font. I didn't pick that one, either. The way I see it on my Mac at home is the way its intended for all to see, so please forgive me if you are looking at something unbearably ugly. I promise, it wasn't me. :(

Now that I have cleared the air on that, we can proceed. This weekend was busy, but spectacular. It included some good food:

 photo image_zps59250563.jpg
Took a trip to one of our favorite places in the world.

  photo image_zpsc3ef6087.jpg
Of course, I had to get my all-time fave - the green chili pork.

 photo image_zps57e6f087.jpg
And I finally tried a beef fajita. Yummers.

 photo image_zps76e5d3cb.jpg
Went by Central Market to grab a few things, and we had to share a gelato.

 photo 8f704aa9-28d5-4bca-96ca-df5aa56edde6_zps60e148e0.jpg
Aaron made homemade donuts again, which I usually can resist.
But this weekend? Not so much. They were calling me ...

 photo image_zps3b63e965.jpg
My parents came over for game night on Saturday night, so we just HAD to get Chinese.

 photo image_zpsf037d86c.jpg
Mmmm, beef lo mein.

Contrary to what it may look like, we did do other things this weekend besides eat. Not that there's anything wrong with eating your way through a weekend - no shame at all. We also laughed a bunch:

 photo image_zps22f2c4ed.jpg
Z laughed with his buddies in their first "Komedy Klub" meeting.
One member is missing, but hopefully he'll be at the next meeting.

 photo pic616264_zpsb0c43c20.jpg
Z, Aaron, & I played the always hilarious Who What Where board game. If you've never played,
I would highly suggest giving it a try. You have to draw sentences comprised of three cards:
one who, one what, and one where. Because you're grabbing cards from a box at random, your cards
make silly sentences like one of mine -- "Mr. T herding sheep in the belly of a whale." It's a scream. You want to see what that drawing looked like, don't you? Alright, here it is:

 photo image_zps0fc16488.jpg

Another sentence I got was "Popeye playing the accordion on an airplane":

 photo image_zpsc4696cdf.jpg

Like I said, it's hilarious. And as I have just exposed to the world, my lack of artistic skill is staggering. Hey, don't judge! As I mentioned a little while ago, my parents also came over and we had a game night. My Mom's favorite:

 photo Scattergories-Game_zps8990cf1d.jpg
Also hilarious!

Lastly, I also got to meet new doggies this weekend, which is always a plus for me:

 photo image_zpsd7248be7.jpg
Isis and Tut, brother and sister 6-month old Bassett puppies.

Lots of delicious food, laughing my arse off, and puppies? God, I'm spoiled. I also ran again for the first time in 3 weeks. It's time to stop pretending I'm still nursing my knee, and just get back in it. It was hard, and I was sore the next day or so, but I did 2.07 miles at the same pace I was at before I took time off. Today, I just finished running 2.08 miles, but I was a tad slower. In my defense, it is 96° outside and this is the first time I've run in the heat of the day. Clearly, it's a stupid thing to do, and I don't think I'll be doing it again anytime soon. Hurry up and end, summer. I hate you!

 Until next time ...

Foodie PenPals & the beach

So, one of the neato blogs I was recently introduced to by a friend (Thanks, LHB!) was a sometimes hilarious, sometimes utterly depressing, all-too-real account of a woman who is struggling with her weight. Long story short: she lost over 100 pounds, became a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, then within a year, gained it all back - plus some. Her ride is real, thought-provoking, and more common that most people think. While browsing her posts, her most recent one had something that caught my eye - a program she saw on ANOTHER blog post called Foodie PenPals. (Suzi's post is here.) First things that ran through my mind after reading this: Are you serious? There is such a thing where people send each other food to try? And I'm JUST NOW finding out about this?!

SIGN. ME. UP!

I couldn't email the lovely brainchild behind this program, Lindsay @ theleangreenbean.com, fast enough. Thankfully, I made the cut for this month's sign-ups, and WOOT! I will not only be sending a lovely person in another state some delicious goodies from Austin, but I will be receiving a box of delicious goodies from yet another state - different person! How ridiculously fun is this idea? I'm jealous and a little pissed at myself that I didn't think of it first. You're a mad genius, Lindsay.

I will be blogging about what I send and what I receive, after the boxes have been received on both ends. I cannot wait, let me tell ya. I'm looking forward to this in a big, big way. Join us (using the link I posted above), if this sounds interesting to you, too!

Thursday was Aaron's last day of school. We are still finding it hard to believe that his first year of teaching flew by as fast as it did. Since everyone is now out of school, the next logical step is ... planning a trip to the beach, of course! I started researching condos and cottages in Port Aransas, and I must say, I was very deflated. When did prices for summer rocket so high?? People do realize this is the Texas coast, right? Don't get me wrong - I have a soft spot for Port A in my heart and always will, but this isn't the Bahamas, or some dreamy, white sand beach in Hawaii. It's murky gray water, and beaches that are so covered in dried seaweed that you can barely find a place to put your stuff down. I was shocked to see the average range is about $180-$250 PER NIGHT, even in the tiny, non-descript cottages that have been there since the beginning of time. Can we say ridiculous? I put in the dates we want - which are weekdays, not weekends, by the way - at a place we have stayed at a few times over years past, and the automated total that came up almost knocked me out of my chair. Ready? Brace yourself ... they want $945.00 for 3 weeknights in Port Aransas. Bwahahahahahaha! That would be HELL no. The weekend rates were even higher! I was about to give up all hope of our beach trip happening, then I clicked on one property that still offers semi-reasonable rates, about $85 a night. I can deal with that much better than I can deal with $185 a night. I can't disclose where it is, because I'm being a brat and have to hog this little gem to myself. I'm sure it won't be long before everyone else catches on and the rates go up there, too, but until then, you can't make me tell! Note to self: plan trips to Port A only in the off-season from now on. Good grief.

TGIF! Hope everyone has an awesome weekend. And until next time, I shall leave you with Z and Cody, playing with Z's recorder:

Ahhh, the weekend.

What a great weekend it has been. We started ours a little early by going on the double-date that I mentioned on Thursday. Went with Amy and Jim to The Roaring Fork for a lovely meal (think: beef tenderloin with Shiner Bock fondue, green chili mac and cheese ...) then next door to The Paramount Theatre to see Ross Mathews. I had never heard of this guy before they invited us to go to the show, but wow, he is hysterical. A good time, and many good laughs, were had by all.

Friday was pretty low-key, just went to Z's last flag football practice, and hung around the house. I *almost* went to the grocery store, but managed to talk myself out of it pretty quickly. Friday was also Z's last day of school, so he wanted to eat out after practice, in celebration. We let him pick where we ate, therefore, we ended up at Freddy's. Not so good for my waistline, but damn tasty. I tried the cheesesteak this time - yowsa.

 photo image_zps24314575.jpg

Saturday started with me going to see one of my favorite human beings, Iris. She is a massage therapist sent from the heavens, and I've been going to see her now for about 10 years, off and on. This was the longest gap between visits - about 18 months - so, I had a lot to catch her up on. Since I have been running again, I hurt. Mainly my knee and lower back, so she really worked hard on those and we were able to set up a plan for me to keep having sessions done to help the arthrofibrosis in my knee. Yes, this is the same knee I've been dealing with for over 25 years, the one I had surgery on when I was 14. It now has a boat-load of scar tissue built up in it, so my mobility is pretty much zero, and I can't straighten or bend it completely. I'm stuck in this sort of bent position all the time, if I don't want to be in agony, so she is going to help me work out the scar tissue. I'll take that over another surgery, any day.

After my massage, we had Z's last flag football game. It was a phenomenal way for he and his team to end their first season together - they beat the team of jerkfaces from earlier in the year. They played this one team that had the worst coaches, sportsmanship, and over-zealous parents I have ever witnessed in any little league sport, ever. It sucked because they beat us the first time we played them, but ah, revenge is sweet. We beat them this time, and they had to choke down the loss. I was so proud of our boys.

 photo image_zpse1de001f.jpg

We ended Saturday having a long dinner outing with a family we adore from Z's school. We have family dates with them about once a month, and this one kicked off summer for the boys. More good food was shared, and many big laughs. Got there at 7pm, and before we knew it, the clock said 11pm. That's how you know you're with good friends. Time flies when you're having fun!

Today, we cleaned house - well, Aaron and I did. When we told Z what to do, he remembered that Santa gave him a coupon book last Christmas that had this in it:

 photo image_zps442a6d2d.jpg

Bastard Santa. So, Z relaxed while Aaron and I cleaned up a bit, did some laundry, and threw away a ton of stuff leftover from the school year. Since we worked so hard, we decided we wanted a snow cone from our favorite shaved ice place, Kawaii Ice, and took Cody with us.

 photo image_zpsf9ccc36b.jpg

Now, sadly, time for fun has come to a close, and it's off to work for me. Sigh.

I love weekends like this. Lots of good food, lots of good friends, lots of family time, and lots of relaxing. I need to soak up as much of this as possible, before my hellish work schedule at the apartments kicks in. We even started planning a potential trip to the beach in July ... ooo, the possibilities! *clap clap clap*.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend, as well. I found a couple of cool websites on the recommendation of a friend that I'll share next time I write. Until then ...

... and we're back!

It's been roughly a year since my last post. In that post I mentioned I was having a sort of blog identity crisis, and that slowed me down quite a bit. I kept feeling that if I had Facebook, and all the same people from there were coming here to read a lot of the same stuff I posted there, what was the point? I slowly started to feel a bit egocentric, and doubted that I had anything of value to say - especially if I was essentially saying it twice. Mix those feelings of doubt with my seemingly endless daily list of things to do, and I just let it fade to black.

Then, about two weeks ago, I deleted Facebook.

No drama, no big announcement to the world ... I just hit delete. I had come to realize over the last year that Facebook annoys me. It's intended to be personal, but in fact, is so impersonal and strange. I began not to care what people were posting, because it's mostly the edited, public version of everything. I can't tell you how many people I know that put on a smiley, "perfect" image to the world via Facebook, while their lives are anything but. My favorite posts were from friends who would laugh at their mistakes, and share how much they had no idea how to forge through the journey of marriage and parenting. It made me start thinking about how much more personal, connected, and creative I felt when I was blogging, and I missed that. So, I quit Facebook, tweaked my blog layout, and blew dust off the keyboard. I must say, it feels pretty great.

To bring things up to speed since last summer:

- Z is now almost 11, and tomorrow is his last day of 4th grade. He amazes me as much as tests me. A great student, a loyal friend, and an all around kick-ass young man. It's so fun to watch him grow up and guide him as he navigates the next chapter of his life. Yes, that means I have to face that he is now dangerously close to the "pre-teen" category. Ugh, I'm working on it.

- Aaron completed his schooling, immediately found a job, and started in August 2012 as a teacher. He has thrived in his new position, and his natural talent with kids has blown his principal away. He was offered a position as a full-time middle school social studies teacher next year, and he jumped at the chance. I am so proud of my amazingly talented husband.

- Since the last two years were focused on Aaron following his dream, he has been adament that we now shift gears and focus on me following mine. Only glitch is that I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I'm beginning to lean heavily toward going to culinary school, not necessarily for a change of career, but ... maybe? As I continue to soul search and figure things out, I am still working at the apartment complex and Central Market. Both jobs have been so good to me. I am still so thankful to have them, but I'm tired. Really tired.

- Cody is the perfect dog, brilliant and adorable, and has become the center of our family world. He has reached about 100 pounds, and will be 16 months old on June 6. I was pretty sure I would never love another dog again the way I loved Elijah after he died, but Cody, thankfully, has proven me wrong. I am smitten, and could not imagine our lives without him. To know him is to love him, truly. He's my (giant) sweet pea.

- My parents are great. We just went on another cruise with them this past March, and it was fabulous, as always. They've been there with us through thick and thin, and Aaron, Z and I are thankful for their constant, continuous love and involvement. Thankfully, we have had zero drama with my Dad's health (knock on wood), and I am constantly sending up prayers it will stay that way. If you have some positive healing vibes to spare, consider sending them my Dad's way.

- My sister's divorce finally became official, and she is happily involved with a good man and is working a good job. She did, unfortunately, lose her dog a few months ago, so that was a hard hit. (RIP Grace). For the last few years, I have been hoping she would find some happiness and peace as she journeys along, because she deserved at least that after her husband walking out on her, and losing her job. I'm glad to say I think she has finally found some of both. You go, girl.

- 283 days until our next cruise. Oh that's right, we're not stopping yet!

 photo image_zpsc8ba0692.jpg

That catches us up. I fully intend to post here as I can. I don't want to set any rules for myself or deadlines, but I'm certainly looking forward to getting back on here and chronicling our most recent adventures. As for now, it's time to get this day done so I can enjoy a nice double-date tonight with my BFF and our husbands. A night out without the kids? Don't mind if I do! Until next time ...

(PS - a quick shout out to Eric (my sister's ex-husband), and my in-laws. See, I have this function on my blog that tells me who has been by lately to read it, and all three of you guys showed up as having stopped by not too long ago. So, wasssuuppp! Ha!)

Sick day

This is a "random thoughts" kind of entry. And I know I've been lacking in the writing lately, but life has been keeping me busy, as usual. Also, I've been having a sort of blog-identity crisis these days, but I won't get into that now. I became inspired to write today, possibly out of boredom because I'm sick and have been mostly laying around, but the urge hit me, so I ran with it.

Today was a "sick" day. Not a traditional one, but when is anything I ever do considered traditional, right?

Uploaded from the Photobucket iPhone App
Battled the chills all morning long.

Started feeling like crap yesterday, and it progressively got worse as the night went on. This morning, I felt just as bad as I did when I went to bed last night, so I decided to stay home from my day job. Just as I was about to roll over and shut my alarm off for good, I remembered I already had an ultrasound scheduled this morning. Getting this appointment in the first place was a pain, so I figured I should still go to that instead of attempting to reschedule and get an appointment that would actually take place before the next millennium. I also had to drop something off at my day job before the appointment, so I went ahead and got up, showered, and headed downtown early to avoid traffic.

I had about 2 hours to kill between dropping off that thing at work, and my ultrasound appointment. I get a few hours alone, albeit feeling like ass, so where do I go? To where food is, of course. I hit up the Whole Foods flagship store downtown, so I could get a cup of coffee that didn't cost $4.00 and a blueberry scone (I've always been a sucker for their scones). I picked a stool in the almost empty cafe, and watched Monday morning unfold for the city. Also, "cheap coffee & scone" mission accomplished - everything came to $3.65. *thumbs up*

It's interesting to watch a Monday happen. I'm usually shoulder-deep in Monday myself, but today I got a rare opportunity to witness a Monday from the outside. I got there around 8:30am, and the place was buzzing with energy. So much energy, in fact, that I felt like I was in slow motion while paying for my coffee, and adding the necessary creamer & sugar. People were like a blur all around me, reaching past me, ducking behind me, tapping their cup while they waited for their soy creamer - it was all a bit unnerving, so I was happy to get to a stool to sit. I will say, I usually enjoy Whole Foods immensely, but I noticed today that having worked at Central Market for the past six months, coupled with the fact that I felt like ass, today's visit didn't hold the same giddy feeling as in visits past. But, here I was, trying to kill time until my doctor's appointment, and I noticed a strange beauty in being part of a big city at the beginning of a work week.

Sitting at the bar in the cafe, my stool was facing a giant window to the outside world - specifically, the intersection of 6th and Lamar. The mix of business men & women coming in to get their morning caffeine fix, alongside the stay-at-home Moms with small kids, was pretty interesting. Among the professionals who moved a mile a minute, the Moms leisurely fed their babies or browsed the aisles at a snail's pace. Even in the parking lot, those who were obviously going to an office job were whisking through, almost jogging to their cars, and the Moms were just strolling amongst them, avoiding collisions & trying to get their shopping done for the day so their little person could get home in time for the always-glorious morning nap. Then you had the fitness crowd, walking around in their workout or biking gear, usually in pairs. They didn't have coffees, but rather smoothies or green concoctions from the juicing bar. These folks didn't seem in a hurry, probably because they all just got done burning more calories than I do in an entire week. They earned their slower pace. God bless 'em, -- and I wasn't even glaring at them out of jealousy for being more disciplined than me & squeezing in a workout that early in the day.

After I finished my scone and half of my coffee, I decided to get up and move around a bit, and hopefully warm myself up (see: chase the chills away). As I browsed, I had an epiphany that is nothing new to me, but seems to happen often -- the overwhelming sense of gratitude for living in a place that has such an abundance of food. If you've never seen a flagship Whole Foods, it's quite a sight, and it's literally packed floor to ceiling with amazing creations made in-store, as well as aisles of packaged foods. Everywhere you turn, there are goodies bursting out, tempting you and luring you in to buy them.

I hope Heaven smells like this bread.

I walked around, marveling at this and that, and making mental notes of things they do that Central Market doesn't (ahem!), and ended up killing enough time to go to the doctor. I'm happy to say, I only purchased cumin, anchiote, a few loose parsnips, cilantro, peanut butter granola cereal for the hubs, organic toaster pastries, paper towels, three kinds of baby cauliflower (see below) ...

C'mon, admit it - they are pretty adorable.

... and a new, smaller reusable grocery bag. My husband would probably argue I need another one of those like I need a hole in my head, but hey, it was $.79 and I hate lugging the big ones around when I only need a few items.

Another cutie, right?

I got out of there for $16.82. A new personal record. Now that I have proved to myself that I have self-control after all, I might let myself go back to Whole Foods more often. I did leave feeling a little giddy inside, after all, so yeah, probably.

Hope to be back in the saddle within the next few days, and start blogging more consistently, as I talk about in nearly every post I write. (If Blogger had an app for iPhone, I'm tellin' ya, things would be so much easier ...)

Until next time.

Finally time to catch up. Again.

I took way too long to post, yet again. But I have valid excuses this time! No, really, I do! I know, it seems like I'm apologizing for the giant lapses of time between each of my posts these days, and it gets old. I get it. But for what it's worth, I can explain.

So, as you read last, we were busy with P90X, Z's school, A's school, and my two jobs. We loved our time off during spring break, and jumped back into everything full force once we got back. Then, we got a puppy. Yes, a puppy.

The boys finally wore me down, and I gave in to getting another dog. As most of you know already, we adopted our new furry family member from Austin Pets Alive!, and Z named his new buddy Cody. Adding potty training and puppy patrol to my list of already existing duties each day literally wiped me out. I finally found the one thing to send me over the edge and make me feel exhausted. It gave me flashbacks to Z being a newborn, and the unbearable sleep schedule you endure, though Z seemed to sleep better than this dog. We decided to crate train, which was literally one of the crappiest experiences of my 37 years, but thankfully the torment only lasted 3 days. Three excruciatingly exhausting days. But, we conquered crate training, the dog started sleeping through the night, all seemed to be falling back in to place ...

Then he got parvo. Our precious new fur-child was stricken with a potentially fatal disease. Seriously? Could we catch a break? At this point, I gave up on finishing P90X, and vowed to return to it one day soon to finish it. (I -will- be a graduate, dammit!) We then endured lack of sleep, due to constant worry, around the clock. Every day was a roller coaster, and this went on for about two weeks. Cody even had to be checked into a dog hospital to help him beat the virus, and increase his chances of survival. Finally, on May 4, he was released back to us and we were given the word that he was going to beat the disease. Thank God for that, because I couldn't imagine having to look my 9-year old in the eye and tell him his dog was dying, after he had waited over a year to get a dog in the first place.

All the while, I have still maintained working two jobs, and the burning desire to lose weight. Though I was seeing some slight changes with P90X, I wanted more drastic results. So, a few weeks ago, I joined Weight Watchers after researching it extensively, and mulling it over & over in my mind. I'm happy to say I have already lost 8 pounds since I signed up 3 weeks ago, so I have found something that suits me, and am excited to stick with it.

Oh, and add in getting rear-ended during this time, as well. Awesome. Long story short: got hit on I-35, crinkled up the back end of my beautiful new car. Car was in the shop for 13 days. Got a hooptie gangsta car for a rental. Was so glad to get my new car back, made "new" all over again. Thank you, Covert Ford!

There, see? Working as much I have been, being a Mom, tending to a (sick) puppy, having to deal with a car accident, and trying to maintain some kind of workout/weight loss regiment took everything out of me. Blogging fell low on the list of things to do each day, though it was always in the back of my mind. I actually find it relaxing to blog, but I was too exhausted to relax. Any spare moment I had, I would be trying to sleep, because I needed it. Badly. I would normally be too nervous to say all is well now, for fear of jinxing us, but I'm throwing caution to the wind and I'm going to put it out there. All is well with us now, and I can finally get back into a routine with my blogging. And I'm excited about it!

To catch us up to present day, the dog is growing by the hour. He's quickly gone from a tiny furball to a small horse.

Z finished 3rd grade this past week. Can't believe the year went by so fast, but I guess I'm always saying that at the end of each school year. I have a big 4th grader on my hands now, and it's seems surreal.

And we are still counting down to our cruise. So happy time seems to be flying by, just hope it keeps up this pace. C'mon summer - be over soon! I hate you!

We have already started planning another cruise for 2014, as well as a trip for our 15th anniversary at the end of that year. More on that later, though, as I now have to get ready for work at Central Market. Stay tuned.

Until next time ... peace and pastries to all.
