Tried to get a picture of them together, but as Becca
has said many times before, Kate never stops talking.
Here is proof.
She asked if Zach would hold her hand.
They moved too quick for me to get a good shot, though.
Their favorite part of lunch -
getting to pick out candy for dessert.
Later that night, Becca asked if we would like to escort her to the Apple store. Unfortunately, her Mac is sick, and needed to be taken in for evaluation. At the last minute, her husband Jay kindly offered for Zach to stay at their house so he could play with Kate & Luke, and we could have a girl date. Holla! Zach brought over some weapons for everyone to share, and in turn, gave Kate and Luke their first exposure to swords and oozies. Becca was thrilled.
About 20 seconds after she first picked up her sword.
Look at the evil eye!
Guess sword fights bring out the crazy
in everyone.
Caught him as he was running through the room.
There's the non-evil looking sword-lady.
Luke eyeing an oozie, for the first time.
Inspecting it closely.
Hmmmm. We'll have to keep working on it.
Meanwhile, a sword fight taking place in the kitchen.
Mommy, giving him a few pointers.
The kids loved running around like maniacs, and Becca and I loved going to the Apple store & to dinner. We ate at The Steeping Room, and it was magnificent! I would highly recommend it! I had the Roast Beef with Chili Lime Tomatoes (natural roast beef, arugula, feta cheese, sauteed tomatoes, & caramelized onions) on toasted wheat bread, with a cashew caesar salad on the side. YUM! Rounded out the meal with a Mate tea, and a coconut cupcake to-go.
Yes, that's cream cheese frosting under there.
I can't wait to go back and try their Goat Cheese tea sandwiches (goat cheese, olive tapenade, and arugula). Heaven awaits!
Saturday, I worked from home a bit, my Dad surprised us with a visit after he preceded over a funeral not far from our house, and I drug Zach on a grocery trip. We did go meet Aaron for lunch on his break, which is always nice, and played a game of Battleship while we ate. If you haven't tried Plank's in north Austin, you're missing out! They have good food, decent prices, and board games scattered throughout the restaurant for family fun. (They don't have a website, or else I would've linked them up. Try them anyway!)
Sunday was road-trip time! It's been a few weeks since our last one, so we broke out our handy-dandy book of Texas Landmark Cafes, and hopped in the car.
This time, we ended up in Waco at a dive called The Health Camp. It's been around since 1949, and has been rumored to produce great burgers & shakes.
The interior.
Zach appreciated the Spongebob graffiti
by co-workers on the side of the grill.
Yowsa! The rumors were all true! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, with everything on it, and a side of tater tots. Aaron got a cheeseburger & fries, and Z opted for the corn dog.
My little beauty.
One of his favorites.
There were no complaints out of any of us, for sure. You could tell the burgers were cooked on a well-seasoned grill, and it made us look forward to dessert. Since I'm not a huge fan of ice cream, I almost skipped it, but the looks I received from both my son & husband talked me into going for it.
Zach got his staple - the classic, vanilla shake. Aaron went with his long-time favorite, a butterscotch shake, and I chose a chocolate-coffee (aka - mocha) malt.
Holy mother! I may not be a huge fan of ice cream, but I tried to be after taking one taste of this amazing creation. I ended up only getting through maybe half of it, but it was tasty while it lasted. I swore to myself on our drive back that I wouldn't eat again til Tuesday. (Yeah, we all know that didn't last.) The roads were crowded for a Sunday, but it was still worth the trip. We laughed and talked a lot, which is one of my favorite things to do with my boys, and my iPod provided our soundtrack for the day. Zach asked me to play certain songs over and over again, especially the newest Linkin Park song from the recent Transformers movie.
This was on the third time ...
One happy little guy.
We rounded off the day with a quick trip to Fry's on the way home. Since Becca's Mac flipped out, it made me paranoid about our own. Went to go price out Time Capsules (aka - external hard drives), just in case our Mac gets a boo-boo. I must say, I've officially decided that I could live in Fry's. It's the perfect combination of electronics and kitchenware. Not to mention, an incredible selection of DVD's, all reasonably priced. I need a tshirt that says "I heart Fry's." Anyone know where I can get one of these?
All in all, it was a fabulous weekend, and just what I needed to recharge before facing another week of work crap. Today was definitely a "Monday", and I'm glad it's coming to a close. Hope all of you had a fabulous weekend, as well, and that Monday was kind to you.
Three things I'm grateful for today:
1. Malts.
2. Getting two days away from work every week.
3. Coconut cupcakes.
Peace & pastries, in abundance, to every one of you. More soon!
xoxo
